As required by AAALAC International, our Graduate student is responsible for all weekend and Holiday coverage. It is the responsibility of the student to check the health status of all animals, ensure proper feed and water are available for all animals, check on environmental conditions in facility and inform supervisor of any and all deviations from the acceptable. They change cages as necessary.? The student also works 2 days during the regular week performing tasks including cage changing, cage washing, sweeping, mopping, removing garbage from the animal rooms and facility, checking on health of all animals and informing Supervisor and/or Director of facility.

The Graduate student also monitors and helps to train new student employees in the proper functioning of the Animal Care Center including training the students to assist on weekends and holidays. The student must be able to lift 50 pound bags of food and bedding and be able to transport the bags to necessary areas of the facility.

Teamwork, excellent attendance and promptness, accuracy and willingness to follow precise instructions and procedures, pleasant working attitude, and ability to work with minimal supervision are absolutely essential.?

  • Research: conferences, books, experts, university programs for the Center.
  • Help the GDSJ faculty with research related to their courses.
  • Help create flyers and activities to promote the Master.
  • Assist the Assistant to the Director with the general clerical duties: order supplies, room?reservations, travel/expense, service requests,?if needed.
  • Help with the maintenance of the Center website.
  • Be the Cohort Liaison with the Director of the Master for any issues during the program.
  • Work on the Online Development Dictionary.

The GA will assist with the following:

  • The scheduling, material and equipment updates.
  • Assist the Director in maintaining the operation of the Center.
  • Prepare materials for Clinical seminars.
  • Assist the Director in her activities with the professional community-i.e., committee responsibilities with ASHA, maintaining accreditation, records, reports of clients, presentation before learned societies.
  • The student will assist with obtaining current treatment outcome data regarding treatment efficacy by researching the literature.
  • Student will participate in data collection for ongoing research projects (i.e., The Listening Inventory for Adults, and for Spanish Speaking families).
